Pulled for the second time. 4500-5500lbs. class. Weighed in at 4640. This put me at a severe disadvantage weight wise. Think I will shed enough weight to get into the 3500-4500 lb. class. I think it would do best in that class. Has anyone had any experience? Dave

I pull a farm stock WD (not WD-45) in the 4500 pound class. Dry tires, narrow front, 1 set of AC rear wheel weights. Ollies are tough to beat and so are the JD poppers (model A's) but I can usually place at least third if not first or second. Here in Florida we usually pull on wet, packed sand. The WD never struggles for power but traction can be a problem.

Their is a WD45 in Ohio with a narrow front that has a single front wheel and 38" lightened pressed wheels and I believe he's running a cut
13.6X38" tires that weighs 2900lbs without traction boost stuff and snap coupler bell removed. This is the most dominant WD45 I know of. Out here in Dakota on our extremely hard tracks the slightly enhanced 88 OLivers are dominating this class cause they use 15.5X38" rubber(189 sq. inches of contact). To compete with them a 45 most be able to run right at the max speed limit 2nd gear and require an absolute minimum of 72 horsepower with our 14.9X38 tires(170 sq. inches). If you first gear it you will not get enough traction to beet them, I've even tried cut 14.9X38's in first gear to get close to them. That evens the field a little and still got beet by one of them, but of course I was disqualified. Remember most experienced Oly pullers are packing 62 horsepower and they have almost a creeper gear which is an incredible torque multipier. Get it light.

I'm sorry I stated above that I was using 14.9X38 cut tire I meant to say I was using 14.9X28's as most 45's have. A wd45 wide front with everything except belt pulley an no fluids in tires will wiegh 3650-3700lbs. Removing the fenders and their mounting brackets will shave another 160lbs. This get's the tractor only right at 3500lbs. From their one can remome the snap coupler bell and drawbar assembly and bolt or weld what is called a 3" throat opening d-ring to the drawbar horizontal support to get the 20" drawbar hieght (check your rules but this is what most orginaziotions allow). Good luck maybe Olivers are non exsistant in your area then A-C's rule!

I pull in 3500-5500# and I do real well in 3500 and 4500. I've only placed in 5500# one time and I think it was a fluke. If you put 38" wheels on it then I'd say go 5500# and 6500#. But if you can definatelty drop to 3500# that is an Allis dominant class. Good Luck.

If you can shed weight, you can add weight. The WD45 has enough power and torque to pull at 6500

Mine weighs 4210...If I get good traction, it really dominates in that class.
