I bought an Allis Chalmers tractor about a month ago. They seller said it is a D14. I just found a shop manual a couple days ago. I want to make sure the model is right and what year it is before I start working on it. The number 139791 is located near the gear shifter. Can anyone tell me if it is a D14 or where the serial number is?
Thanks - Great web site

Engine serial number is on the engine block- left side, near the rear. Tractor serial number is on the torque tube, to the rear of the engine, which the engine bolts in to. Left side, starts with D.

Check out my serial number images page - it should help you get an idea of what you have simply by where the serial number is located. From your description it sounds more like a casting number on the gearshift housing that you've found.

The highest SN for a D14 was 24050. The model B went up through SN 127461. WC's went through SN 178202, WD/WD45's went through SN 236958. Not much else with that high a SN.
