Now that I have the transmission fixed and working well. I found a new problem. Yesterday I was pulling my little 4 foot disc around turning over weeds and getting ready to plant grass. All of a sudden the engine started making this loud TAPP TAPP TAPP TAPP. I put 'er in neutral and idled down a bit. the tapping started getting a little louder and then then engine started to sound like it was struggling for maybe air? then it just died. I let it set for about 5 minutes and tried starting it back up and she fired up on the first turn.
This is the second time it has happened. Any idea? Thanks in advance!

sheldon, i may be way off base, but i think i would pull the 4 nuts on the valve cover and look over the valve clearance. roll the motor by hand and watch the stems go up and down, anything sticky? might want to spary asome WD40 on the stems and tap on each stem wiht a ball pien hammer. also look that things are plenty oily and havent been lacking for oil flow. i would then change the oil. might even start the motor up- with the valve cover off to see that things looked good at an idle.

You aren't loosing oil pressure when the oil gets hot and thin are you? Next time it happens check the gauge and make sure it is still normal for that engine. No oil pressure might explain the noise and eventually it would slow down the engine, that is if it didn't seize. Just a thought,I would want to check if I had those symptons.

when you started it back up did it run good or did the clanking sound continue.the reason I ask is my B would make the same sound when it was under load. it would clank and sound like it was skipping but would sound almost normal at idle. My fix was as easy as a fouled plug. maybe it helps. mark
