When starting my WD-45 one of two things happens. It will fire right up then immediately die. Or if it starts and continues running it runs rough and surges badly at idle. It has good spark, new plugs and good supply of gas to carb. I opened carb to check float and it appeared OK.

I would put in a carb kit, easy to do, costs about $30. These tractors are also very fussy about where the needle valves are set. Do the presets and then 1/4 turn will make a big difference. Since you have good fuel flow to the carb it is probably a carb problem. The kit includes the throttle plate which can cause this problem.

sounds like the intake manifold or gasket has a hole in it and you are leaking in air, or blowing exhauste into the air supply. of even simplier it could be plugged jet in the carburetor. might need a good internal jet cleaning.

This morning I was having the same problem with my Model "C". I removed and cleaned the carb, cleaned the inline filter and cleaned the tank out as much as I could, and drained it. In doing so I found that the tank had a lot of water in the gas apparently due to the heavy humidity lately. Once I put clean gas back in I added a bottle of Gas Dryer and it now purrs like a kitten. No more water in the gas.

Good Luck !
