I have a chance to buy a model c allis chalmers. The guy wants 1000 for it. He says that it runs like a top, but is missing the generator/alternator. My questions is did the model C have a generator? If so can anyone send me a picture of were it originally was mounted.
And is the price a far price?

If you would like some photos of a model C that show where the generator go, just let me know. I just finished restoring my '47 model C.

Here is a link to a photo I have posted on this website of the C shortly before it was finished.

thats a fair price if it has good tires and decent paint (not new). the generaotr was 6 volt positive ground. not real popular today. if you want original it might cost some buckes. if you want a nice tractor it might be time to install a delco alternator and a 12 volt battery. cheaper and dependable in the long run. if you are interested in the "non stock" alternator version, post again or send me note and i can give you wireing diagram and details. you get the alternator at auto zone for $35. If you want it to look original, but be 12 volt, consider a 12 volt negative ground generator off a 1962 chevy pickup. they sell at auto zone, but i dont know the $$$. will also need a voltage regulator for a generator.

Most C's (according to my AC books)had electric start, therefore they had a generator to charge the battery. Can't send ya a picture, but the generator mounted to the left side of the engine via an upper & lower bracket. Prices on tractors vary state to state, but from what I've seen in prices, personnally I don't think a $1000. would be to,to, bad providing the sheetmetal is real nice and basically everything is there and in working order other than obviously the generator. From what I've learned here on the board, ya really have to go over em' pretty good to negotiate a "good deal" depending on where you live...Just my 2 cents...If you do strike up a deal and buy the machine, I make the OEM generator mounting brackets if he's missing those also. Hope that help's ya out.
