Bent PTO shaft

Just found a problme with my PTO shaft - apparently got bent when it came disconnected. Little ding, hardly noticible, in the female section of the joint. Probably 1.5 inches from the end. Won't allow the male part to be inserted far enough to make a connection. :-( Local dealer wants $257 for a new shaft. Is this high? It is for a King Kutter 5 ft. mower and an AC D-14. Is there a place to find a used one? How much?

If you can't get in far enough with a file or a moto-tool, you can replace just the yoke half. Any machine shop or tractor dealer should be able to do that for you- 30-50 bucks.

Tried filing it down - too much of a bend even though I couldn't see anything. Even used a straight edge.

Went to my local machine shop and the guy set me up with 13 inches of the correct steel shaft. .97/inch. Now I have to drill a hole and drift a pin in to connect the yoke. Thanks for all the help.

Tractor Supply Co. TSC has new shafts for right around $100. If you can get in with a punch and straighten out the ding so the shaft will slide together you shuould be OK as well. I've straightened shafts before and if it's not warped real bad to throw things off balancee they work OK.
