Can anyone help me ID a model/year AC?
The engine serial number is wd295805pa.
I am having trouble locating what I believe is the tractor serial number. There is a number on the left rear axle housing of am3836-7 and another on top of the transmission housing behind the shifter of 200091. I am sure it is a WD tractor as it has the adjustable wheels, etc but I am not sure of the year or if it is a WD45 or not?
Thanks

The engine is definitely "WD"; WD engine #s are prefixed by WD and WD-45 engine #s are prefixed by 45. If the engine is original to the tractor, it is most likely a 1951 WD. There is no direct correlation between the engine serial #s and the tractor serial #s so the year cannot be determined exactly by using only the engine number. The tractor serial number is stamped on the left vertical surface of the differential/ brake housing on a flat "boss" located just below the brake spring hole and above the brake adjusting bolt/locknut. BTW, the WD has nearly all the basic features of a WD-45, including "power adjust" wheels. Features attributed by some to only the WD-45 were actually transitioned into the WD as "running changes". These include distributer ignition, constant mesh transmission and "taller" head, all of which were part of the WD by the time the WD-45 was introduced in mid 1953. The big difference between the two is the new engine block incorporating a new crankshaft pushing the displacement from 201 CID to 226 CID by increasing the stroke from 4" to 4-1/2". This, along with a larger carburetor and an increased compression ratio increased the power dramatically.

And power carter pistons, larger oil pump, oil line to the governor, curved seat beam with adjustable position shock mount. And probably some other such changes that I am missing too.

Power shift wheels came out with the 45 version of the WD.

Nope. I drove a WD for many years as a kid on the farm. All WD tractors had the power wheels.

The WD tractor had a side panel on the right side of the engine. Look just behind the magneto or distributor - it is very apparent. The WD45 did not have this panel.

you are close. the tractor number is stamped into the left axle housing by the brake cover. not the cast number, the stamped number. the engine serial number of WD gives you a good clue.

Engine numbers don't mean squat- they can be changed just like underwear. Tractor serial numbers are stamped on the differential housing, like said before. And power shift rear wheels were pioneered by AC with the WD.
