I showed a fella the wd-45 I just got the other day. He looked at the engine and said he thought it should have a cover the right side of the motor if its a 45, but he wasn't sure. Serial numbers to 1956 and engine casting no.is AM 3853-10. Is he right?
Thanks
Irv

45s didn't have the cover on the right side, WDs and WCs were the ones. A 45 will have an oil line running to the governor too. And in the engine serial no. it will say 45 somewhere I think. Sometimes the nos. are fainter than the actual serial no. You may have to scrape paint to see.

Thanks, Irv

Irv, Tom is right, the WD-45 "engine" serial number is prefixed by "45". See my reply to wdwilson above for more info. BTW, the engine serial number is located on a flat surface on the side of the block near the intake throat of the carburetor.
