Can anybody tell me what year AC WD I have, where would I find this info on the tractor?
I have the engine number WD331054PA it is stamped into LH side of the engine block. The engine is an OHV type. I also have the numbers from the Ign. it is a Fairbanks Morse type FMJ, 4B3, 2386360. Can I still get engine overhaul parts and from where (ie gaskets, rings, bearings; and Ignition parts)? What type of ignition is this?

As far as what it looks like, it looks like the WD's in the photo archive aside from the after market front loader attachment and the ign. It has no distributor just a square box with 4 ign. wires on a round dist cap on the back end of the governor assembly on the RT side of the engine.

I know nothing more about this machine as I found it in the bush.

re WD model. serial no is on rear of diff housing, between center cover & left brake. if hard to read, clean it as best as can, then rub with your kids chalk. there is a link on this board that gives starting no's of each year. parts are avail at AGCO dealers, a merger of allis, whilte, moline & oliver.

Dave, the ignition system is a magneto, kind of like your lawn mower. It does not need the battery or a external coil to make it run. The mag builds up a charge internal, has an internal coil, and fires thru one of the 4 plug wires. there is a small threaded stud sticking out to the right, like a #10 screw. when you ground this with a wire it kills the motor. The WD is very popular and there are engine parts around. IN the late 1950s the tractor became the WD45 then in just before 1960 a new tractor was developed, the D17. The tractor share a common engine series, lots of parts interchange. There are still "motor kits" or "overhaul" kits for the engine. Motor is a wet sleeve, liners slide out after head is removed. O-rings seal on the bottom.

WD changed to the WD45 in 1953, and the 45 was built until 1957. Major change was more power (via different engine) and different transmission. Some 53 WD's had the newer transmission with the curved shift lever. Tranny difference was angle cut gears for easier shifting, instead of the straight cut gears. Tractors are identified by the serial number on the differential.

Actually, the helical cut gear tranmission was introduced on the WD in the latter part of 1952 with tractor serial #127007.
