Read an ad that said 59 Allis model B for sale, needs rebuilt $550 obo. Now I know that the year is totally out-of-wack, and since I haven't been able to get anybody on the phone yet- I don't know if they mean the whole tractor needs rebuilt or if just the engine needs rebuilt. But what kind of price range would be reasonable????

mike, things vary greatly by region, but this is a "general idea" --motor stuck, tires rotted -$300 --motor runs poor, tractor looks bad, tires poor -$600 --motor runs o.k., decent paint, tires fair -$900 --good original looking tractor, decent tires $1200 --repainted, several "new parts" $1500. --there are guys that ask $2000 for a "rebuilt tractor", might be work that, but i never paid that much. if you figure $500 for a set of tires, $300 for paint, $100 for a rear rim, $500 for engine overhaul, you cnat pay much for a clunker to start with. but then again compared to a new $7000 kubota, a $2000 AC might look like a good idea. --make sure you get starter, hydraulics and PTO

Third Brush Generators - by Chris Pratt. While I love straightening sheet metal, cleaning, and painting old tractors, I use every excuse to avoid working on the on the electrics. They all seem to start with a chapter entitled "Theory of Electricity". After a few paragraphs I usually close the book and go back to banging out dents. A good friend and I were recently discussing our tractor electrical systems when he stated "I figure it all comes back to applying Ohms Law". At this point
