Which is the original OLD Allis Chalmers color, Persian Orange 1 or 2? I want the color of the 1930's. I had a bad experience with ordering the old original AC Orange from Van Sickle paint. It was number 453-71 and is almost red!!! They say they'll correct it but need to know 1 or 2. Thanks.

When I restored my 1952 AC CA I used Dupont Centari 24952A, and am very happy with the results.

Hi Ken,

Is this what you are trying to link to?

Here is a sample of the two PPG "persian oranges". PPG does not make a distinction as to "#1" or "#2". The 60080 is closest to "#1", so called. The "#2" has more red in it. The sample part is the lower V-belt guard from my '42 B belly mount sickle mower. The original paint in the middle was scuffed with 400 grit paper to clean the old surface and try to show the original color as best as possible. You will note that the lighting makes a noticeable difference in the perceived shade, even across the same sample. Both the PPG numbers are OMNI acrylic enamel.

Send me the name of the place and their phone number where you got that paint sample matched for you Allis B. I'm preparing to move to the painting phase of my '39 Allis B. What primer did you use. Any advise you want to pass along. Were to satisfied with the end product? What kind of $$$ went into just he painting and the metal preparations? --JPM from Highlands Texas, just east of Houston.

A few years back when restoring a real decent B I took a rear axle housing on the under side that was caked with oil/dirt. when cleaned looked like it was new. I had the part computer matched at a PPG. paint dealer in Toledo, Oh. (painters supply) maybe they still have it on file. Problems/questions e-mail me.

Don,
I used Dupont "Dulux" Persian Orange on my "B" and it came out awesome. I also stumbled on to a matching engine enamel so the paint won't burn off the engine. It's Plastikote #200 Chevy Orange! It matches the Dulux perfectly! Took a shot at it and couldn't believe the color match!

lots of luck with Van Sickle. the closest to number 1 persian is ppg#60080. or possibly dupont #655. I looked at some Van Sickle AC orange the other day. When you go to their color chart AC Orange and CASE Flambeau red is the same color to them. Also recommended is Krylon Farm Equip 1820, but haven't tried it yet.

If you want the paint to stay on more than a few months, avoid the Krylon.

Right on with that number for Persian orange #1- it is appropriate for the unstyled AC tractors. Just did a 1937 with that mix, made up by Car Quest, an Upper Midwest Car Parts supplier than custom mixes the ppg numbers.
