Thanks to all who answered my question about the starter on my RC a few days ago! Now I have some direction. Also, I spoke with the previous owner and he says the ring gear is definitely bad. :o( Looks like I'm gonna have to split it to get it working.
On a better note, I decided to check out the valves yesterday as the last time I had it running it sounded like a JD 2-cyl! After sitting in the shed for what seemed like 6 months, I checked the battery and it was still up! Switched on the lights but nothing happened. Checked the battery and it was still showing full charge. Pulled off both battery cables and cleaned them and the lights were now working. Turned on the ignition and choked her about 3/4, gave the hand crank a pull and she fired up! Still missing real bad, though.
Drove her out into the driveway so I had light and pulled off the hood and then the valve cover. No wonder it was missing! One rocker arm each for #3 and #4 had jumped out of the pushrods. Put everything back like it should be and now she purrs. Turned out to be a great tractor day after all! - Thanks again, Phil

He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce ... [Read Article]
