I have located a 4 cylinder Allis-Chalmers tractor that I am wondering what model it is. It has been outside for a long time and has no decals left. The only thing that I can find is the number 207611 stamped on the side of the transmission.

Chuck, there are about 3 versions of "old tractors". If it was built in the 1940-1955 era, it is either "big" or "small". The small tractors are the B or C models. they have the engine connected to the transmission by a torque tube, which is round and about 6 inches in diameter. there is no "frame" this is the backbone of the tractor. the serial number is by the transmission shift lever. Common rear tires are 24 inch rims. THe bigger tractor was the WC, WD or WD45. This size tractor has a 6 inch c-channel frame along each side of the tractor and up around the radiator in front. Common tire size is 28 inch rims. Tractor serial number is on the rear axle around the left brake housing or center pumkin (WC). The last tractor series was the "D", which went from the little D10 to the D21. Normally we are talking 10,12,14,15 or D17. This is a more modern looking tracotr of the early 1960s. serial number is on the bell housing flange behind the left rear corner of the engine. Post back what you find.

Thank you for your time. I looked at the tractor again and it has the torque tube as you described. The numbers "J306" were found on the left rear axle housing. Does this help anymore with trying to figure out its identity?
