I have a WD that I use very little - just for mowing a pasture with a 5 foot rotary. It now cuts out and in, about every second, so it just jerks until I slow down to about 1/4 throttle. Then it smooths out again, until I speed it up. It doesn't do it right away, but is consistant until once it warms up. Any ideas where to start to fix this - gas or electrical system?

My WD (with magneto) was doing that. Turned out to be a bad condenser in the mag. Fixed it right up after I replaced the condenser.

Dale,
It sounds like fuel starvation. Look down in the tank with a flashlight and check to see if the fuel outlet is partially blocked.

Then check the fuel flow to the carb. Remove the fuel line and check for a strong flowing stream about 1/4" dia.

If that is good, clean the carburetor really well using Berrymans B-12 and clean all the little passages with a stiff wire.

Check the float setting to make sure it is allowing enough fuel to enter the bowl.

I doubt that your float is sunk due to the symptoms you describe.

If that doesen't help, a good, complete tune-up seems to be in order (points, condenser, rotor, cap, wires and plugs).

If the problem isn't fixed then, I would suspect the coil. Sometimes they will act really wierd after they warm up.

Good luck,
Phil

P.S. One more thing. Be sure you have fresh gas.

Thanks for the response. I had already checked the fuel tank and it looked OK. (Had that problem before). I verified that there is a good fuel flow to the carb. I guess I will take it apart and clean it next.
