AC66 combine question

I posted this message on the combine board but I thought maybe since this board has a lot more AC guys I'd try running it past you. I have an AC66 combine that I've been having problems with the straw plugging up. I think the problem is the rubber strips are gone from the concaves and its chewing up the straw making it too fine. Anybody know if I can replace the rubber or fill in the space with something. Anybody had this problem before?

Could be the lack of rubber, but I doubt it. How's the clearance, too close? The rack should be able to shake just about anything out. Air flow up? Rack speed correct? Is it plugging up or do you mean the straw is wrapping around the cylinder? With all the rusted 60s and 66s, you should be able to locate a good concave bar, not too easy to remove from a neglected combine.

On my machine the straw moves too slowly along the straw walker. I had to replace the metal around the cylinder area when I got the combine. Whe I was done I had rubber under the concaves and the combine worked pretty well. Now the rubber is gone and the straw plugs easily so I'm thinking its getting choped up a bit from the concaves. I now have stainless steel around the cylinder area and stainless steel concaves so replacing them isn't the problem - its filling the space under them.

My 60 moves the straw just fine, and it has NO rubber on the bars. In fact, some one long ago installed angle iron for the origional bars! I'm combineing rye with mine, and it's pretty tall, but it moves the straw through just fine. I'm thinking something else is out of ajustment on yours???? I'd check the cyclinder clearance, all so, i'd manually throw straw on the rack and see how it's moveing. It should move right on through! Robert

Mine is missing the rubber under the concaves. Does your's have the rubber still in place?
