WD45 frozen block and coolant in oil pan

I've got a WD45 that has been sitting for 6 years. It ran before then, although I knew it needed rings because of low compression in a couple of the cylinders and it fouled plugs, although not as bad as another WD I own. I tried tow starting it 2 years ago and discovered that the engine was froze, most likely because water got down a leaky exhaust pipe and settled on top of some of pistons. I've been soaking these the last 6-8 months with Gibbs pentrating oil that I sprayed down the spark plug holes. I've finally found time to work on it, but when I went to drain the oil, I found that it was mixed with practically all of the coolant. Only a little coolant came out of the cock on the side of the engine.

Is this engine damaged beyond what I thought? Last fall I pulled the valve cover and maybe started messing with the rocker arms, but I didn't go much beyond this before I just set the valve cover back on. Is there something there that may have caused the coolant to end up in the oil? I was hoping to get away with repacing the rings, doing the connecting rod bearings, and maybe do a valve job if necessary. Since this is my first ever overhaul work of this sort on my own, I've been real slow about just jumping in, but I really want to get this tractor running again as it's got the wide front end.

Any ideas? Head gasket or cracked block?

Thanks in advance for any responses. These forums are great.

My guess would be that the O rings on the sleeves are leaking, you could verify it by dropping the oil pan and pouring coolant in the radiator and watching where it is leaking. If you were going to replace the rings and bearings anyway it would be best to go ahead and put new sleeves in.

Thank you Farmer Gene. That is something I never would have thought of, and a good way to check it too. I'll try that next. Jon
