New to tractor and have not even put it to work yet, but trying to learn about all of the features and its operational functions. Having said that, I turned on the PTO at idle speed to see that it turns (it does) and see if the PTO brake works (well, it slows and stops turning), but the one thing I did notice was a rather loud rattle and clanging sound coming from the area in front (clutch side) of the Pwr Shft section when engaged. Speed engine up, the noise seems to go away or at least diminish (engine sound may cover it up maybe?).

So the big question for you all: Is it telling me there is a problem here? Or is this a normal sound? Tractor is a maroon belly #7000-4815. Would appreciate hearing from anyone knowledgeable about this. Reply's graciously accepted. Thanks!

The noise you are hearing are the dampning springs in the clutch. They make noise after time and use. They are worse at idle speeds and should dissapear if you rev it up to 1000rpms or a little more. This is normal run the tractor and forget noise or turn radio up a little louder.

Craig MO - Thanks for the information. I will take your advice. By the way, the stereo radio does work real well! Thanks again for your reply!
