B Allis final drive fluid

It seems like some time back someone was discussing the final drive fluid. I am starting to restore my 46B, and need to know what type of fluid i need. I have a manual for a CA it calls for 20wt, and a manual for a D-17, it calls for 80ep. I am confused now I figured they would be all the same. Will appreciate any help since i do not have the right manual.

Dave, my 41 B manual says summer 140 and winter
90, with a 1-1/2 pint capacity.
Now in a later AC B manual it says to use S.A.E.
20W at all times.
I think either will do the job, but I'm going with
the heavier lube in mine.

I spoke with an oil expert about this a couple years ago,He explained that the heavy EP oil was best for the gears while the lighter 20w oil was better for the bearings.I always use the heavy oil in gearboxes that are heavily loaded.Also non detergent or hydraulic oil has a slightly higher film strength than a detergent motor oil and does not absorb water but lets it settle out so it could be drained out periodically.

There's not a lot of difference in 20w engine oil and 80w gear oil *except* some extreme pressure additives. The viscosities are very similar - check out the website below for more info.

My CA's manual (original with the tractor in 1951) says 20w engine oil - that would be non-detergent engine oil. We've used 90w gear oil in the finals for all our AC's for years (30+) with no problems. Either way you should be fine.
