Well I was looking for a block and a lot of people offered to sell me one, but they are all over the price it would cost for a new one from The Tractor Barn. Now for my question,,,Tractor Barn lists one part number for a WD and Wd45 block, now are these the same? I have a WD that I bought for some reason or other and I think its block is good,, Thanks in advance,,,Jim

I put a WD45 crank and 175 pistons in mine, they all came with 4" pistons. Tisco even sells 1/8 over bore pistons, the original sleeves were very thick. Also I used the WD cam and it matched right up to the WD45 crank gear.

The spec sheet says that WD45 is a 4.5 bore and the Wd is a 4 inch bore,, is this correct?

Yes, see the WD & 45 and flat heads, the pistons are 3/4" from the top of the block. The 1/2 difference in stroke only throws the piston a 1/4", I put the 175 pistons in which are also 4", because they are a 1/4" taller than WD or 45's. And this upped my compression to 185 lbs of compression and she dyno's at 59 h.p. So I still had another 1/4" for the valves to open. Thanks to Allis interchanability!

The WD and WD45 blocks are indeed different but they are completely interchangeable. You can use the parts out of one in the other. One thing you want to do however, is always use WD pistons with a WD crankshaft and WD 45 pistons with a WD 45 crankshaft. If you use WD pistons with a 45 crankshaft, you will have a really high compression ratio. If you use 45 pistons with a WD crankshaft, you'll have a really low compression ratio and lack of power.

Dan, here is what I am thinking of doing,,, I want to use the block only from the WD and use everything else from the WD45, like the pistons rings, rods, crank, sleeves, head and so on,, do I have to change the cam?or will the WD cam work,,,I have a cracked block on the 45. the WD has a bad sleeve,, the WD block is like new,,,, see where I am at on this?? I basically need to know if all the WD45 parts will work in the WD block and if I need to change the cam, I plan on changing everything else,,,,Thanks,,,Jim

Yes, you can take everything out of a WD 45 block and put it into a WD block. The sleeves are identical. You asked above if the WD had a 4" bore and the WD45 a 4.5" bore. They both have a 4" bore. The stroke on a WD is 4" while it's 4.5" on a WD 45.

Thanks Dan,, I went ahead and put it back together using the original parts. After I got the ring unstuck and the sleeves and pistons back in I couldnt turn the engine with the crank, the starter had a heck of a time turning it. I hope this is just from everything being dry, I reassembled with a lube, but maybe it all needs to pick up oil, I am going to finish up tomorrow, have to put the oil pan, valve cover and manifold on yet before I can try to fire her up, may have to drga it with another tractor to start it the first time though.Wish me luck,,hopefully nothing leaks,.,,,,JIm

WD and WD45 blocks are different. 201CI vs 226CI to start with. Many other differences, but the complete engines will interchange.

I know the displacement is different, but the sleeves and piston size is where that comes from,,, I know someone on here used the WD45 piston and sleeves in a WD,,,Jim
