2 CA problems

I just rewired my CA for 12 volt system. The starter was driven so hard it lodged and I had to remove the starter, to back the cogs back toward the starter. Went to starter guy and he says this ia a common problem because the force causes the cogged moving part to wedge whenit hits the end of the spiral on the shaft. He suggests squaring the groves where the ends of the grooves are tapered now. Any other permanent fixes?

Also. I have a leak from the axle housing. There is a hole about 2" in diameter that has the transmission fluid running out. These holes are near the end of the hydraulic cylinders. One does not leak as much because it is full of mud and grass, should I just fill the other hole with mud and grass?????

I also have a leak dripping on my tricycle wheels. I am afraid to think this may be the front engine seal, any thoughts?
Thanks for the help on these problems I am encountering.

Mike

You need new seals. There is a seal on each side of the trany where the axel comes out. There is also a seal where the axel goes into the bull gear housing. Replacing the seals on the side of the tranny is easier than the bull gear housing seals. You will need to support the tractor as you remove the axel housing. The seals are standard. I have replaced every seal and bearing in the tractor. This is what you call a learning experence. Be sure you take emory paper to the axel to smooth out any rough spots. The smoother it is, the longer the seals last Good luck.
