WC Puller?

Can anyone tell me what I would have to change in the running gear to be able to install a 350 Chevy engine in this tractor and make it a puller? Trying to get son interested in the old iron, and he said today he would like to build a pull tractor out of it. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Buddy,
If the WC is in good shape, maybe you & your boy should restore it and run it in a stock puller class. Let him get used to pulling with the machine in stock form, get some experience pulling with it, then find a basket case AC somewhere and build that with a small block Chevy in it for some serious pulling. I'm an old hotrodder from way back, but if I have a vehicle that's complete and worth restoring, I'll go that way with it before I hotrod it. Making a hotrod doesn't make you a bad person ya know... ha ha! Whatever you decide, enjoy the time with your boy, be safe, and have fun with your tractor!

Well the old tractor is well worth restoring, just thought that would be a good way to get him more interested in the old tractors. He is 24 years old and he has a 54 GMC that has a 350 that he built in it that is pretty racee,he is also Mastered certified GM mechanic that does all of one of the local Chevy dealers main engine work. And like you I was an old hotrodder at one time, running the drag stips and the dirt track cars. Just another way of enjoying our time together. Still trying to decide.

Buddy,

An old drag racer uh? Yeah, we do have a lot in common. I campaigned a front engine dragster back in the early 70's. Ran an Hilborn injected 331 SB Chevy. Had that engine in a 66' Chevy Nova before that, and ran in the gas classes. All I had to do is point the dragster and go. The Nova on the other hand was a handful...I never played in the dirt, but attended quite a few dirt track races. Your boy sounds like he's pretty sharp, and likes his Chevy's! Enjoy! Steve

Well maybe he could use the GMC to pull the WC around on a trailer when you go to antique pulls or shows??

While this would make an interesting project I can't agree with it unless the 350 will be controled by a governor and run like a tractor engine, and even then I can't see the point of destroying a nice old tractor. I can't see how these modified tractors relate much to a tractor. You don't see any of this stuff pulling implements in the field which is what a tractor does. I understand more power maybe with a stock, but larger engine, but not the hotrod engines.

I guess I should have said that I think the WC stock as it was is one heck of a tractor, it certainly was for its time. It was powerfull, light, simple, and put a lot of farmers on a tractor with rubber tires. Look at it that way, worth it for what it is, try to make your son see it for what it is, a great tractor.
