I have a 1950 AC model B that starts and runs fine when cold. When it reaches operating temp it starts running rough and eventually stalls out. At this point it will not start(acts like it is flooded out).I'm thinking it has weak spark that worsens when it gets warm.I put a brand new carb on it 3 months ago.
Any sugestions?

when it starts running rough after it gets hot do you see alot of dark smoke comming out of the muffler. I have a 48 B and it did the same thing.It would cut off after it got hot also and would not crank until it colled off. I pulled each wire off the darn thing but each fired. I chased ghosts on that thing for a solid day until I finally pulled the carb off and found a piece of rust keeping the needle valve open. Before you spend a bunch of money check the needle and seat first. it's cheeper. mark

next time is dies, pull a plug and stick it in the plug wire and ground to the engine block, crank and look for a spark.--i agree, the coil or condenser is bad and breaks down when hot. a remote possibility is too tight of valves., but i would guess the coil first.

Dale;

Usually the cause of what you describe is a bad condenser in the mag or dist. As the engine warms up it shorts out.

Take care

Dale I have the same problem that you seem to have. I have redone the carb. Had to retime the tractor to get it to fire on the #1. Have changed the sparks twice in as many years. Had the mag down to international for a run and I saw it hit on all. I have talked to many in the antique tractor club without any help. The problem arises when it gets up to around 160, 170. I have to crank it and it will not go till the temp gets to 120 or around there. Ihave been told to get a new coil. The bad thing is if it's not it they won't take it back. I wish there was a way to test it I would. I hope someone would help the both of us. As it is yesterday when it quit I was ready to run it over with the bigest thing I could find. Good luck and I hope we may get over this soon. ED

The condenser's a good place to start as noted. The coil could also do this - my truck was giving me fits recently and a new coil cured all of it's problems. Not too expensive a fix.

(your choke is opening correctly when you move the rod, isn't it? ;-) Hate to ask that but it does happen on occaision that the choke rod is not properly connected to the choke plate.)

You might also check the valve clearance - the valves may seat nicely when cold, but be out of adjustment so that when they warm up all sorts of interesting things happen. Check the intake manifold gasket too - things expand when they get warm and you may have some sort of leak there.
