My Agco dealer recommends a universal tractor fluid that you can get at any TSC store or Walmart.

Type A oil was an early transmission fluid made from whale oil (or something else similar that was an animal by-product). It was used in certain applications - such as power steering - because it was easy on oil seals. Stand automatic transmission fluid is apparently hard on power steering seals (and some others). The direct replacement for Type A nowadays is Type F automatic transmisson fluid. It's commonly used for power steering systems today.

I have used Hy-tran universal tractor fluid for years with good results. It's cheap to!
