I have a 1950 'B" and would like to replace the PTO shaft with a "proper" shaft so as to use with modern equipment. Any makes or models that may work???

Thanks for the info. I almost have the "B" completed. I'll post pics when finished. You have never seen an AC like this one- lots of crome. Is this forum great or what!

The later B/C/CA shaft is the larger diameter, but it's hard to find just the shaft. Best bet is the overrunning clutch (keeps the mower from driving the wheels when the engine clutch is diengaged - this can be a problem(as my wife found out)). The cheap solution is a $9 sleeve from TSC - just put one on my Dad's B. You need to check the size of the hole in the PTO shaft - mine was much maller than the hole in the implement's collars, requiring me to redrill it.

There is available a simple, inexpensive sleeve that slips over the small existing shaft to enlarge it to 1 3/8 inch. It has a hole in it to line up with the existing hole to continue allowing use of a bolt through the shaft to hold the pto yoke on.

If your pto shaft is 1 1/8" then you can purchace an overrun clutch adaptor. It will convert it to 1 /3/8" for modern implements and have the safety of the over run feature. I have a 48 b and have the over run clutch.

Not sure what diameter your B shaft is, but there are companies that make adapters to go over your shaft that are the standard size. I'd think that a 1950 B would have the standard size now, my 35 WC does. Think it's 1 3/8" 6 spline.
