hello all ive got a problem with my d-15 tractor its smoking very bad if you wear a white tshirt while driving it will throw small drops of oil on your shirt from the exhaust pipe it also smokes very bad . anyhow i checked the compression and its good 151-151-152-155 lbs with the plugs removed and the throttle wide open .the sparkplugs have oil extenders and the plugs are all oil fouled.so i pullled the head last night and the cyclinders loook great no ring groove at all .the valves are all closed .they do have carbon on them but i think its from all the excess oil does anybody have a idea as to what could be causing all the oil to come out the exaust ?{it looks like a mosquitoe fogger} i dont want to tear the whole engine down if i dont have too . i allways thought it would be the rings but the compression is so good ? thanks brian

My WD has a E Gleaner engine in it that does the same thing. I suppose it sat for a while and the rings stuck. It still has around 170 lbs. of compression. I'll probably have to fix it sometime.

Has any thing been done to the engine just before this started? Are the oil return paths from the head to the crank case open? Is the engine oil level too high/over filled(wrong dip stick)? You can have very good compression and have a problem with the oil rings. Are the oil control rings the 3 piece type? It is possible to assemble the oil control ring with the ends of the center piece of the ring overlapped. They have to be butted against each other. I am not sure on a D15 engine but is there supposed to be a baffle on the rocker arm shaft to control oil splash against the valve stems/guides? Is the crankcase venting system ok? Thats all I can think of at the moment. Keep us posted.
