When coverted to a 12 volt system with an alternator, can a regular light switch be used instead of the 3 position light switch? Where is a good place to obtain either of these switches?

Also, what purpose does the magnito serve? Doesn't the alternator recharge the battery and create electricity to operate the motor?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
You can purchase a universal style push/pull switch from a local auto parts store for your tractor if you're running a 12V conversion. A push/pull switch from Standard Ignition Corp. P/N-DS-234 or equiv. will work fine. I have them in stock if ya can't locate one, but you shouldn't have any problems locating one. As for the mag, as Dan mentioned, magneto's generate their own spark, so it's a separate intergrated system, and doesn't need power from the electrical system to power it up. Steve

With an alternator you don't need the original light switch and you can use any simple switch that will fit in the box...can be obtained from any auto parts or hardware store. The magneto is a self contained unit that produces spark. It has basically a small generator and the coil, points, distributor, etc. to provide spark to the cylinders at the proper time. It requires no external power source except for the rotating shaft to turn it.

the alternator will recharge the battery as it is drained by the starter or the headlights. Dan has answered the rest.

I decided just to use a $4 toggle switch instead of the $70 original

Thanks for the help
