The traction booster only works with mounted and certain semi-mounted equipment. As Gordon stated it senses the pull of the implement and utilizes the hydraulic system to provide additional weight on the rear tires. The traction booster system was at it's best when plowing although it could be used with A-C disks if equipped with the proper hitch. Contrary to popular belief the traction booster did not lift the plow out of the ground if the plow and traction booster were set properly. It relied upon the "suck" of the plow along with a proportionate amount of weight removed from the front end to accomplish it's task. If you plan on using the D-17 for plowing you should get a manual for the plow you intend to use (must be A-C plow of course). It will describe the setup procedure.
