Exhaust Manifold Stud removal help

What you need to do is apply heat to the cylinder head around the stud. Applying heat to the stud will weaken the stud, and when you go to turn it out, it may twist off in the head. Apply the heat evenly with a torch around the stud, and once you start to achieve a low red glow, you should be able to carefully unscrew the stud. Work it back and forth a little, then unscrew the stud out slowly. If you have someone to help you, the other person can gently remove the stud while you're still applying heat. Do each stud that way and you shouldn't have any problems. After you get the studs out, let the head air cool, (no water) then run a tap down the holes to straighten the threads. When installing the new studs, add some Anti-seize compound to the threads on the studs and run them in. Should be a done deal..... ..Good Luck! Steve
