Working on a B that sat for about 6 years with gasoline in it. The bowl was just gummy. The main jet plug at the bottom back next to the air cleaner came out easily and the threads were not rusty. But the opening behind the plug and up into the bowl were packed with rust-colored crud-perhaps it was rust. The main jet and the "well vent" are the only two items not yet removed. Do not wish to damage them. Will grind screwdrivers for good fit for each of them. Other parts removed without damage. The main jet area is now soaking in PB Blaster till morning. Is this likely to help free the jet? Should I heat some with the oxy/acetylene if the main jet does not come out easily? Is it likely that fuel gum is holding the jet or rust of the carburetor body?

Just recently cleaned up a zenith for a B myself. I didn't bother removing main jet or ventura tube after I had a bunch of trouble removing float needle seat. I had to drill it out after the head twisted off(I had ground down the screwdriver head for a perfect fit and had soaked the carb in carb cleaner for three days beforehand). I just made sure the passages were clear. Carb works fine. Float seats are replacable but I dont know how easy it is to find the other brass jets if you have to drill them out. Hope this might save you some aggravation!

I do not think i would try any heat. Let that bugger soak in a coffee can full of laquer thinner for a couple of days and see what happens. Be sure to put the lid on the can, no evaporation and it creates a little heat that way.

Thanks for the suggestions. Got it all apart. Reinstalled the plug for the main jet and poured some B12Chemtool (an expensive way to buy those solvents) into the bowl for about 8 hours. The jet came out without damage. The reddish-brown dust that I was getting earlier must have been dried gasoline. Now I do not believe that it was rust. The solvent, when I removed it, was colored the same as the dust. The suggestion for cleaning without removing the jet was to be plan "B".
