52 CA was stuck but I got it loosened up. I pulled it to try and start and it seems to fire allright but as soon as I push in on the clutch it dies. Fuel is getting to the carburetor fine. Has new plugs, points, cap and rotor but not wires. Anyone have an idea where to start looking ?

All of the above are applicable...but, unless you have taken the carb apart and used a carb soak or spray can cleaner and fine wires to clear all passages...then blow all out with air...then do it again and re-assemble....must have a filter in line if the gas tank is cruddy....it will not maintain power enough to run...just did the same as you with an old farmall C...same carb I think.
Now it runs smooth and will take off on it's own power.

I Know this sounds weird but I had this problem with a 8N ford, and what it was that the oil in the rear end was SSOOO thick that when I let of the clutch the engine would pull down and die. It still has the original type of oil, not the new thin stuff.

Bryan,
Possibly you have 1 or more valves stuck in the open position. To determine this, you have to remove the valve cover to observe the valve operation or you have to perform a compression check. You have to have compression, ignition, and fuel for it to run. If you feel it is getting fuel, then you should check for spark at the plugs. If you have fuel and spark then lack of compression could be the problem. Duey

Bryan, how "stuck" was it. When you are in gear and pulling the tires are "driving " the engine. When you push in the clutch the engine must maintain its own rotation. Might be a dumb idea, but what if you have too much drag in the engine to keep it runningon its own. If you pull the plugs and push in the clutch, how hard is it to rotate the engine by hand. Maybe you need to put a little penetrating oil in the cylinders and work it up and down a little? How about removing the valve cover and soaking the stems and springs with oil?? I might be wrong, but we dont have a lot of info to go on yet.
