I just bought an AC 816 backhoe loader, and cant find any information on these machines. Are they oddballs or just not popular? Are they known under another model number I can try to find? I was suprised to find no info in the archives.

The 816 Loader Backhoe was produced from 1970 to 1975. It uses NO Allis Chalmers manufactured power-train components. It was a heavy machine using a Perkins engine. Only the 918 was larger. It was replaced by the 715 which was somewhat smaller but still bigger than the 615. Parts are a challenge to say the least. 715 parts are somewhat more accessible as it was produced into the early 1980's. Only about 1900 816's were produced starting with serial # 1001 IN 1970. The specs were impressive as the 816 weighed 15,500 LBS. Hope this helps.

Dave, Mac is right. I have posted a couple of questions on my AC I-60 backhoe and have gotten very few replies. Not a lot of industrial AC stuff out there, but I'll tell you what, I'll take my broken down old AC over any import. If you're interested, I have a good industrial parts supplier up in Vermont. E-mail me and I'll send you the info.

i don't think anyone is ignoring you, but rather your having the same problem i have with my A/C 615. The forums are mostly about agricultural tractors, and backhoes are considered Industrial equipment. and add the fact they are quite rare and difficult to get parts for.

Thanks for the reply. Are parts hard to get because AC is out of business? Are parts available from another manufacturer or is nothing made anymore? This 816 is in excellent condition, but if something ever breaks I hope I dont end up with something I cant fix. I know I will need to fix the gas guage, I was told the float broke. Is your 615 similar to the 816? I know this site is mostly agricultural tractors, but I have found plenty of info on my case and JD backhoes, just nothing on the AC.

Dave this site list several service/parts etc.manuals for you machine...if you don't already have them. I found some discontinued parts (in original A/C package) by doing web searches with A/C part numbers, and got them at very reasonable prices. good look in all your ventures mac

Thanks Mac, that is a good idea. I am picking up the machine saturday, and it comes with the service and parts manuals. I will start looking up some parts when I get the books, thanks again. I will post a pic of the machine this weekend, it is in really nice shape.
