I recently replaced the clutch and throw out bearing in my 1955 CA. I've adjusted the Pedal rod as far as i can get it, but the clutch still won't work. Any ideas of what could be wrong??

Any clutch (rebuilt, new or used ) will have to have the fingers properly set after assembling the pressure plate to the flywheel , before the tractor is slid back together. Everything is desigined to work when properly installed. Cutting and remaking except the build up for wear is a sign of someone that needs a service manual or a mechanic.

I think if you'll look at all the points it pivots on the wear all ads up to not enough throw. I have seen alot of them cut in half and a die run down each end and then a turnbuckle to give more adjustment. I'm not saying it's correct but it works, it's something like that or you will have to weld up the rod where it goes thru the pedal and grind back the right diameter, and the same to the pedal and the rod it pivots on. Hope I've been clear as mud ??? LOL Mike

You got to tell us more of what you mean by "not work".

When you press in the clutch pedal you can't shift into any gears with out it grinding

HaD A similar problem. It would release after a bit though. Tractor would keep going for a few feet when you steped on clutch too. Turned out to be a tight pilot braring/bushing. Lapped it out with some valve grinding compound and is OK. May not be your problem though.

Another problem that can happen and could be a safety issue is this. The pedal and its hinge point can wear so the pedal doesn't hit it's stop at the bottom of its travel. When this happens the pedal will keep going, go over center, swing down and reengage the clutch. It is quite a surprize when this happens. When I was a kid working on a farm I had the tractor at my house a mile or so away and for some reason my mother drove it back to the farm and as she got to the farm your and pushed in the clutch to stop for a closed gate, well you know, went right through the gate. Got to watch for worn linkage.

Andrew, Check the archives on this site for some responses by Dick L.. Try to start the tractor with the clutch pushed in and in gear. If it will shift like that after it's cranked you need to split the tractor at the other end of the torque tube and adjust the nut on the transmission. I think! Hope there is some adjustment left.
