Pudgy 36,
Remove the small cover (4 bolts) forward from the distributor, on front of the engine. This is the governor cover. Governor spring may be broke or governor weight could be broken. If the weight is broken, find all of the parts. Broken parts like to hide behind the cam gear on a ledge. Accessed by removal of the front timing cover and oil pan. A broken part going through the gears can do MAJOR damage. Duey

Thanks, Pudgy, my D-17 all of a sudden started screaming when I had it on idle. I'm still using it but the throttle really doesn't work. NOW I'm gonna look at the governor doohickey and see if I can find the problem. Scarred the bejeebers out of me.
