Why oh why, is the tip of the exhaust stack squished together, as seen in old pictures of the B? Was this supposed to control heat( a guess ).

In the era before raincaps, the exhaust pipe top was pinched to minimize rain getting in. It has absolutely no effect on horsepower.

Well, that's another thought I hadn't come up with. Thanks for the input.

I asked the same question a few years back and most thought it was to create back pressure.

Eric, My guess would be that they did it to get more horse power, Maybe. Just a guess, TractorMike

Well, maybe. Notice old action shots of the B and usually the hood area around the stack has the paint burnt off. Why? Perhaps this was a part of the scheme to keep engine temps up when burning kerosene. Just wondering in Watsonville Calif.

My only guess was to increase back presure or to justify purchasing more persian orange paint. Who know's.

Thanks guys. The restricted output would help a lot toward reducing burnt exhaust valves by increasing back pressure. Now on to the next windmill.
