My father recently purchased several pieces of equipment for his farm and one of them that came with it was an Allis Chalmers D road grader. It is a 1953 and has a cab but no windows. It is small and really a cute piece of equipment. He is however unfamiliar with this item and is trying to find out what it is worth. Someone told him that they are fairly rare and he would just like to know what a good ballpark price would be on it. Thank you.

I don't know what they are worth, but I agree they would be somewhat rare. Hope he intends to maintain it. They were built from 49 to 65, and there were about 6400 of them built during that time. There is a little information and a few pictures of different models and options in THE ALLIS CHALMERS STORY, by C. H. Wendel. If you can find the serial no. I can look it up in this book and tell you what year it is. Is it gas or diesel? That would make a difference. I agree with you, a nice machine. (and being orange it will no doubt run better than other color machines)

In Marion Ohio on Fairground Street there is a excavation contractor with one, I saw model number DD on it, its completly restored and is really nice looking piece of equipment.

A couple of weeks back, I attended a large farm sale auction. There was a Allis Chalmers D grader there. It was a later model one. The later model ones have the square tubing frame out front instead of the pipe. I think it was a Special, because it had bigger tires on it. The engine was out and gone! It was bought for one bid of $100.00! Your're grader maybe $2,000 or $3,000 depending on condition. Maybe more, if you can get a very interested party. Good Luck, Phil
