How do I tell exactly what year my Model G is? Where can I find a serial number? I have some photos of it if that helps...please email me and I'll send them if you need them.

Also, my grandfather has another Model G. His has been newly painted, and the numbers near the gear shift has been painted over, and I can't make them out. Are these numbers on there anywhere else?

...it looks like its a 1949. 1st # for '49 is listed as 10,961 & 1st # for '50 is listed as 23,180. 16,856 is between those, so it must have been made in 1949.

I read somewhere that they made 'em all in a short period of time, and had them sitting all over the place. They sold them as they could and assigned serial numbers vs. years accordingly. Anyone know if this is an old wives tale?

You can find the serial # on the transmission right behind the shifter. It is stamped into the case itself. It can be hard to read...may have to wire bush off some paint, etc. Check the number with the serial numbers on this site or post the number (it should start with a G) and someone can give you the year.

Chris,
According to my Allis data book, you should be able to find the serial number of your G on top of the transmission by the shifter. The location of the engine number is on the left side of the block on the rear flange for starter. Production years 1948-55, with a total production of 29,971. Hope this helps out..... ..Steve
