I just got a 1938 AC B (B450) and would like to put it back original. I got late 40's op manual and there significant differences. Manual shows brake foot pedals and I got hand brakes. Rear frame work has been "mortified" and it looks like it's got a Ford seat and spring. I am looking for pictures and info on earlier B's, any help would be much appreciated!

I just "adopted" 38B #4157 from Jerry, (see photo in Gallery from Saturday 4/13) I am also going to be bringing her back to original. I would be happy to share any info I find with you.

you got one of the old ones alright. the hand brakes are original and the seat was a bench type in the beginning. almost everything else, except the hand brakes was common for many years after 1938. Look at the left of the page under "Gallery" then "tractor Photos" then type in Allis and look at the various "B" and "C" tractors. You will see that there is little difference between at 1938 and a 1948. Does your have starter and generator? a lot of the early ones did not. also no battery and you would of course have a magneto ignition. If you go back a page you will see an article on "The little Allis" that is an indepth article about the "B" and "C" tractors. The "C" is basically the same tractor with a wider rear axle, and normally a narrow front end.

I have magneto ignition. I think a previous owner added a starter but not a generator ( no mounting bosses on engine block for brackets ). Somebody tacked on plastic head lights. I guess previous owners put a charger on the battery after using the B.
