I am working on a 48 B it has the traditional front end that most B's generally have. I was reading in I believe the book was swinford that in 1940 That Ac changed the B to a more modern and traditional tractor style front end. By replacing the curved front axle with a rigid straight one.My question is that true for all B's manufactured after 1940 or was it optional? I am trying to figure just how original my B is and just a little curious. any information would be helpful. thanks

I believe Trevor is correct, the adjustable front was an option. I have several tractor books, one strictly on Allis Chalmers that say the same. My '49 B has the curved front end also.

I believe that the adjustable front end was an option. I am not sure of this but I have seen both. The B we have has the adjustable front but I don't think that is standard.

It was an option that came with the 40" to 68" wheel tread selection. It also had a different rear hub - 5 bolt lug pattern rather than the single large nut on the axle (maybe not allways but that seems to be indicated in the parts manual). I have a 1949 with the conventional curved front axle and standard rear rims and a 1950 with the wide adjustable front and 5 bolt rear rims.
