Value of a rebuilt '58 D14

I'm in the market for a smallish tractor (first timer) and have located a rebuilt D14 at the local repair guy. He took it in from a fella who couldn't afford the repairs. By the time he told the shop to keep it, they had rebuilt the engine, repainted it, put on two new rear tires, new seat, and changed all other fluids. The shop just wants their repair money out of it, but that runs to $6500. It has a loader and blade, but no 3pt. It has been sitting there for about a year. Can anyone tell me if they think that is a fair price? If $6500 is high, what is fair?

All help gratefully appreciated.

Divide it by two and you're still on the high side.

this is part of the trouble with haveing others do all the work on your antique tractor. you get $5000 to $6000 invested in a tractor that is only worth $3500 in the market. If you just got to have a certain tractor, or spend it on one you will keep forever that might be o.k. but dont expect to ever get your money back out on a $5000 restoration.

Right On Steve! Paying a proffesional to restore almost anything, car, tractor, or what have you, will usualy cost more than the thing is worth by the time its done. You almost have to be willing to do it yourself and expect nothing for your time other than the satisfaction and enjoyment you get from bringing a tired old horse back to life.

Two yrs. ago I purchased a D-14 built in 1957 with a D-14 farm loader, No. 80R rear mount mower, 2 bottom plow and lots of extra parts, filters and so on for $3000. It was still in use in an orchard and now works my 10 acres.
