The PTO MUST be removed if you are going to use a sub-soiler, with the AC snap-coupler-drawbar setup... If you don't remove it, you WILL break the rear bearing mount, or at least bend the shaft.... You may be able to get it straight enough to use, if you can get into a press... It must be pretty straight, or the bearing will be ruined...

I just have to ask! How does one "bend" a PTO shaft?

I think he used a 50-ton hydralic press with some v-blocks. Not sure if I'm using the right terms.

Lou, Took mine to the machine shop and had it straightened, ruffed up where the bearing sets, buffed where the seals live, and welded pin hole up and rebored it for $30.00.Replaced bearing and seals. Though about drilling and taping a grease fitting in the top of the bearing carrier but haven't yet.Seems to be fine but don't have tractor back together yet so can't tell for sure.Dale

The shaft on the WD I am working on isn't in too good condition, splines worn. I thought someday as a project I would try and make one. Have the machines and knowhow, would need to get or make a cutter for the actual spline though I think. Do you have a machinist friend who likes to fool around with things, give him the project. I am sure they are around used and possibly new. You probably don't want to even price a new one though. I think used is around $100. As for straightening, it is a pretty hefty shaft, maybe a machine shop with a good press. You would need a good straight edge at the least, and better vee blocks and an indicator, to check it.
