Spent about an hour exercising this 1975 beast. Put it thru all the gears (pwr director tranny), worked the 3pt, etc., and for 6300+ hours the engine seemed strong. So far everything seems to operate ok. As for the instrumentation (idiot lights)nothing, except the oil pressure light, was operating including the tach/hour meter; maybe some wiring problems here. The clutch seemed smooth and solid and didn't grab or hesitate(depressing clutch shifted the pwr director into 'lo' like it is supposed to). All the gears seemed to be okay with no growl or groan. Brakes operated excellent. Pwr steering worked ok. All in all, for its age and abuse as evidenced by its overall appearance, it doesn't appear to be in too bad of shape. BUT, as usual, there are a couple of things that do concern me and I am looking for some information and help on them and I'm positive there will be some answers from some folks about them.1) Just before I shut it down and while standing still, I let it idle just to ponder a bit. This is when I noticed what I would describe as a bad throw-out bearing or rattling type noise coming from the front of the tranny case area. Depressed the clutch and it did not go away nor lessen in intensity. Tried numerouse gear positions, and still it kept it up. Got outside to listen and it was a little less noticable, but was still there; sounded like it was coming from the area between the back of the engine and the front of the tranny case. So my question; any ideas on what I was hearing? Is it a possible serious problem? I like the tractor overall, but I just can't afford a tranny rebuild at this time. 2) After it was shut down for awhile, I pulled the dipstick from under the tractor seat (tranny?)to check oil level, appearance. It came out with very clean oil on it, but it was way up above the full mark! Could this be caused by a leak from somewhere else? or maybe just a case of overfill. 3) Can the idiot lights/instrumentation be repaired? I hope there are some AC mechanics and/or others out there that can give some insight on these items and any information offered will be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Tom
