[History: Off and on "Clack" type noise at mid section of tractor, at low RPM, with no load. Everything seems to work ok] With PTO gear cover off, lookig straight up into the torque housing, there is a drive gear and a driven gear on a stort, splined shaft. When I turn the power director back and forth, these 2 gears slap together and apart (sliding on the spline) with about 3/8" end play, and sound like the clack noise. The book shows no thrust washers. Surely, this endplay is not right, but I can't see anything worn out. The good news: I think I've solved my 3rd gear problem without buying any new gears.
