I've got an old Allis with powersteering waiting to be restored. It also is missing the oil pressure gauge, but there is a tube that seems to lead over to the left frame rail. Must have been a bracket over there to mount the gauge. As you realize, the oil gauge in the "normal" place can't be seen because of the lump of powersteering equipment that blocks your view.

Have farmed with them since 1948 when we got our fist WD. Great tractors and no special problems that we had. As has been mentioned the older high use ones may stick in gear or jump out of gear. Not a difficult fix. Rain will enter around the shifter boot if it is cracked or worn and get in the tranny oil. In winter this will freeze and can lock it up or bust things.

The manuals are all available and I would highly recomend buying a full set. Available through this web site I believe. Norms may have them.

These tractors tend to leak oil from the front hydraulic seal into the engine clutch area. This can be mistaken for a leaking rear engine main. If you have the engine out for any reason, be sure to replace this seal. If it ain't leaking yet, it soon will be.

Good luck with a great tractor!

Oil pressure should be anywhere above the minimum mark. That could be on the "n" of normal or higher. One member of this list reported that the "n" corresponded to 3 psi from his tests, so it didn't take much oil pressure. Note that only a portion of the oil goes through the filter, not all of it like later model tractors and cars.

The main problem is a tendency to lock up into a gear as the shift tower and shift lever wear. Not hard to unlock - simply remove the shift lever, get a long screwdriver and move the gears to neutral - but aggravating.

Wiring harnesses are available from AGCO. Sandy Lake Implement will have them as will others (Norm's probably does too).

Congrats on buying one of the best tractors AC ever made! (Yep, I grew up on one and just bought one recently to restore).

Just LEARN the proper way to engage the PTO....or you can tear it out..... Put the transmission in gear, standing STILL, holding the FOOT clutch, then the PTO--in THAT order. Usually, the Hand clutch is let out ( forward) for safety, also....
