Ya i am still restoring my 1941 c AC and i bought another for parts or mabe to get it running.I dont know yet.The guy said it has a knock.I bought it for the distributor mostly.My question is the one i am restoring has a mag.which is shot so i am wanting to switch it over to the distr. type.When i take it off the old tractor and put it on mine,how do i know how to get the timing right.And do i have to have a different charging switch and off and on switch?Oh ya and is the wiring different.Thanks,Terry.

these ar just the highlights. take out the no 1 spark plug on the tractor. turn over the engine with crank or fan untill you feel compression coming thru front spark plug hole with your thumb over it. look at the 1 inch diameter hole in left side flywheel housing and continue to roll engine slowly untill the fire mark is centered in the hole. At this point the distributor should be ready to fire no 1 plug. set the distributor into the hole and adjust so the rotor points at no 1 wire on the distributor cap. bolt everything donw and this is a starting point. install the other wires and it should start. on the wiring, the mag has a wire that "grounds it" to kill the motor. the distributor needs a 6 volt coil, and it must be "powered" from the battery to make it fire. you kill the motor by turning off the power to the coil, normally with a key or toggle switch. so yes, you need to remove the mag wire, and install a power wire for the new coil. you can reuse the present kill switch by rewiring it to get power from the battery and send it to the coil.

I have never change over a allis c mag setup to distributor,but i believe the shaft between the mag and the governor is a different size,i hope the parts tractor was complete that you took the distributor from,you will need those other parts.
