BUSH HOG DRIVE SHAFT LENGTH FOR WD-45

Does anyone know what length of a driveshaft I need to hook up a Bush Hog to an Allis Chambers DW-45 1957 model . The one on my House Bush Hog is too short.

Don't forget to include the Over Running Clutch. This will add several inches to the overall length of the PTO, reducing the distance to the gearbox of the Hog.

Don't know the answer to your question, but have you tried adjusting your tractor drawbar in to the short position ?

You will notice a choice of three bolt holes where the upper and lower drawbar halves bolt together. If your's is not using one of the holes close to the hitch pin hole, you can shorten the drawbar so you don't need such a long PTO shaft. You won't be able to turn quite as short without the tongue catching on the tires, but i think the short setting is the one that provides the standard distance from the hitch pin to the tractor PTO shaft.

According to ASAE standards the distance between the center of the drawbar hole and the end of the tractor's pto shaft should be 14 inches for a standard 540 rpm pto tractor (ASAE Standard S482). Like Sonny says, check your drawbar setting - it may be set out too far.

You don't mention if this is a 3 point hitch or pull type bushhog. If it's 3 point hitch your horizontal distance should be 20 to 22 inches from the end of the tractor's pto shaft to the center of the lower link hole with the lower link held in a horizontal position (ASAE Standard S217.11). This measurement is the same for Category I and Category II 3 point hitches. (It does mention that some older tractors have a minimum of 18 inches for this measurement).
