D14 vs. D15

Help me understand. The D14 and the D15 are very similar in many ways but how similar are they. In particular are the sheet metal parts interchangeable fenders, hood, side shield, radiator screen, etc. I have a D14 and have found several parts from a D15, will they bolt up? Looking at fenders and side shields (under gas tank). Also could other parts like starter and carb be interchanged. Any info would help.

Thanks in advance,
Doug

Side panels may interchange. Not sure if hood panels will - we moved a loader from a D14 to a D15 Series II and had to add 1" to the loader frame cross bar going over the gas tank, so the D15 is a hair wider somewhere (either front frame, rear axle points, or both).

Both had a 149 cubic inch engine (gasoline), so perhaps the carb and starter would interchange. The only way to know for sure is to look at a parts manual for each tractor and see if the part numbers are the same. Tyr posting the part numbers from your parts manual for the D14 and see if someone with a D15 parts manual can help you out (I'm going to buy one but just haven't gotten there yet ...)

Hood panels and grill are bigger on a D15, they won't fit a D14. D15 starter is 12v a D14 is 6v. Later model d15's had a 160 ci engine and taller fenders. Even the D15 with the 149ci engine ran at a higher rpm and compression ratio than the D14, producing more HP.

the D14 was actually made first, up till 1960. It was 6 volt positive ground. The D15 took over in 1960 and was converted to 12 volt positive ground. The tractors were no built at the same time. The first D15 used the D14 engine, but they were 12 volt by 1960. Dont think 14s had factory 12 volt, but the last few off the line in 1960 may have.

Fender brackets are taller for D15 to accomodate larger std tire size.
