I have a reasonably complete 1938 Allis-Chalmers B: Serial 6319.I want to restore it for my son, but the engine block is badly cracked. I cannot find a replacement here in South Africa.What I can find easily enough is C and CA engines. Could I replace the sleeves from a CA block, with those from the B engine and fit the engine to my B? Will The B crank and cylinder fit on the C block? Any help would be appreciated. I have to drive 1200KM for the C block, and dont want to do it unneccessarily.Thanks.

Thanks guys for the advice, the C block is on its way. My tractor has the BE engine, which should have a 3.25 inch bore, but it measures 3.375 like the CE engine.It was probably changed like Butch suggested, at overhaul. They must have done someting wrong during that overhaul, because it seems that soon after that it broke no.1 rod and pushed it through the block. The sleeves have no ridge and still some hone marks. The crank is perfect, so is the pistons. I had new rings made andrepaired the bigends.I agree the bigends are not pressure fed, but has the funnel shaped holes as shown in John Lemmon's photo. Thanks for the advice to keep the crank, rods & cam together.A good day to you all.

I think some people have got into some later D series engines and thought they were from a B,C,CA as I have never ever seen a CA with pressure fed rods,if there is some way to prove this please do because I am always open to learning something new but as I said before I have had dozens of these engines apart and have never come across a CA with anything but dribble fed rods.

To clear up a little con fusion I run out in a cold an took some pictures of a CA engine kinda niked. Ya git to look in an see some privet parts like the hole in the crankshaft.

Now if ya click on next ya kin see it is not a D's engine. Now ifins ur still in need of a better look I do have a D 15 block I kin slid up beside it an took a nudder picture of em side by side.

Now if ya click next agin you can see a coupla a rods. Guess which one wont work in a B. If ya have some of those dozens of CA's around ya might jus want to try ta find the holes that squirt oil on the rods, Aah they jus aint there is they. Thats why they drilled the crankshafts.

Hello Jan, I hope I am not just adding confusion to the different answers below but Dick L is correct and so is Bryan. The first couple years of Bs had a smaller bore, but most were changed at overhaul to make them 125 CI. Most CAs had pressure lubricated rods and a drilled crankshaft. B and C tractors had holes drilled in the cam to spray oil towards the rods and a non-drilled crank. The B and C rods have two funnel shaped holes to direct oil to the bearings. If a person was to use CA rods and cam with a B-C crank he would have little to no rod bearing lubrication. To anwer your question, Yes you can put ALL of your B internals in a CA block. If you mix and match things keep the rods,crank and cam together from either motor and you will be OK.

Careful here. The 125 cubic inch engine is of course the same between the B, C, and CA. But remember that the early B tractors (1938 to 1942, SN 101 to 61400) had a 116 cubic inch engine - would the parts interchange for this one as well?

All the parts for the B,C,CA will interchange,I have had dozens of these tractors apart and have never found any difference in these parts.

Yes you can, every thing is interchangable from all three engines. In saying that you need to keep the B and C rods and cam togather. They will then work with the CA crankshaft. You can not use the B or C crankshaft with the CA rods and cam shaft.
