Last friday a friend and I stopped to see some old tractors and machinery. I spotted this odd looking AC. It appeared to be short and stubby looking. It had a sickle mower mounted on it. We inqired of the owner what it was he said it was a AC BI and that there were only 2000 of them produced for the State of Kansas and that as far as he knew there were only two in existence. Do any of you know if what he told me is true. The tractor is going to sell later on in March. I am NOT interested in buying it but would appreciate any information about it. Thanks and have a nice evening. Jerry

he is about half right. the IB was a version of the B, with the rear axles turned forward 90 degrees and the front axle replaced with a straight box axle. It sets 6 inches lower and 6 inches shorter for this reason. the first IBs made in the later 40's were serial numbered with the Bs. Later they had their own serial numbers starting with IB. The made about 3000 of the later model. I would guess 4000, maybe 5000 units total. There are still several hundred around the country, maybe more. There were common for the state and county hiway departments and railroads to mow roadsides. A lot of them came with sickle mowers. I will send you a picture of mine. Look at the left under Photos and type in "IB" and you will see a few more.
