Ok, I have discovered I have a big problem. My front main seal is bad. And I was wondering how hard it is to change it and where can I get one? And will Kerosene work to clean out the oil passages instead of diesel fuel? Just wondering, TractorMike

I had a similar problem only that I had the crankcase filled with the proper amount of WD-40 penetrating oil as it was very dirty. Stupid me, I didn't put a sign on the machine saying "DO NOT RUN" as my father and brother gave it a good pull with another machine and w-a-l-l-a it blew the front seal, I took the original to Central Tractor who gave me the wrong one, I then took the whole timing pan to NAPA who sold me a $5 seal and put it for me. Happy, Happy, Happy.

I think it is OIL PASSAGES not SINUS PASSAGES

you have to take the radiator sheetmetal off then the radiator, and drain the water. the radiator mount is bolted to the engine front end with four large studs. would be best to take this off also. you need a puller to remove the crank pulley. now you are looking at the seal. if you can "pick" it out, you can glue in another. look to make sure the crank is centered in the front hole. if not it is best to remove the several bolts and remove the front cover of the engine timing gears. this is a flat 1/4 inch thick plate that holds the seal. I dont know the seal number. you should be able to get it at NAPA. -----you can wash the oil cavities with anything that disolves oil. i might think twice about an alcohol based substance. you might disolve some rubber, plastic or RTV material, if that is present. personally i would use kero or diesel. i think gasoline is a very good disolver of oil and gunk, and parts washer, but of coures you cant recomment that due to the volatility...right?

Steve, I used kerosene, Then I put it back together and drove it back to it's shed so I can take it apart. I didn't loose to much oil because I only put 3 quarts of oil in it so it wouldn't leak but my temp guage keeps leaking so I do loose some water. Hopefully it wont be out of comission for too long. Now, will a hood from an AC C fit my AC B? TractorMike

B and C are same hood. major difference is most C are narrow front axle, and wider rear axles and housings.

Mike,
My Napa/C/R seal book lists two different seals for front crankshaft. Depends on engine serial number. Here's the numbers:
Eng.#-CE16109 thru 177566 seal#14816
Eng.#-CE177567-up C/R seal#14857
Hope this helps ya out.

Go to the liquer store and by some PGA everclear pure alcohol(no Lie). I used this instead of Kerosene and it will really clean those passages out and it isn't as hard as say Diesel fuel or kerosene.
