i have a 51 model wd that i have recently converted to 12volts and put on a new carburator. it runs like a swiss watch for awhile then starts to miss. sometimes after it warms up and is re-started it will run good for awhile. could my coil be weak? it has a magneto converstion that someone else has done. any ideas?

Johnny, I'm custom making solid core spark plug wires now for AC's. Mag or Distributor. Aftermarket companies around me offer only carbon. Like Norm says: No good. Ditto for the Chimpanzee spark plugs...Give them to the Arts & Crafts people. Maybe they can make somethin' out of em' E-mail me if interested..

I had the exact problem with my WD and it turned out to be the condenser. (Magneto ign). Dave

Could be the coil, or the condenser.... Could be a plug wire, or plug, too... Could even be that the valves need re-adjusted...the rockers may need to be removed, and the valve stem end ground or filed to a non-worn condition....otherwise they are hard to set accurately.... One thing I CAN tell you for sure...If there is just ONE drop of water in the sediment bowl, ours will start missing.......!!! Don't ask me why...I don't know....always have, and we have had these since 1955, and 1957..!!

Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a
